Serono to stay independent

Serono has called a halt to discussions about a sale of the company. The Bertarelli family, the controlling shareholders, say offers made so far "did not adequately reflect the future prospects of the company." Instead, says CEO Ernesto Bertarelli, "Serono will invest in its existing businesses and will actively pursue opportunities for growth through acquisitions."
