Monsanto and BASF have discovered a gene they say confers increased drought resistance and yield stability to a new type of genetically modified corn. The new corn may be marketed as early as 2012. It is the first product resulting from an R&D partnership between Monsanto and BASF (C&EN, Oct. 20, 2008, page 30).
