French chemical firm Arkema’s Pebax Rnew thermoplastic elastomer is being used to make a soccer ball that electronics maker Sony is donating to children in Africa. Arkema’s elastomer consists of block copolymers of nylon 11, made from castor oil, and polyether segments. Arkema says Pebax makes the ball 1.6 times more durable than a conventional soccer ball.
