Solutia Sequel?

September 21, 2015 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 93, Issue 37

History may be repeating itself! The founding of Chemours from DuPont (C&EN, June 29, page 5) sounds eerily similar to the founding of Solutia from Monsanto. Assumption of debt, environmental and health liabilities, cyclical commodity products—all sound alike.

One can only hope that history does not repeat itself.
