Cosmetic preservatives seem to be in the limelight, mostly under negative scrutiny. What is true and what is a myth? Preservatives serve an important function, but are often seen as having no benefit, and rumors abound. The realities of preservatives, both the positive and negative, and their true profiles, will be covered.

Attendees will learn about what a cosmetic formulator faces when challenged to have a product that is safe for consumers to use. The technical requirements must always balance image and consumer perception and how best to protect the products from misuse and ultimately becoming a health hazard. The list and quantities of allowable cosmetic preservatives in the worldwide market is continuing to shrink but the requirements for a safe and effective product remain the same.
