Call for nominations: 2025 Edward W. Morley Medal

by Mark J. Waner, chair, Cleveland Local Section

September 27, 2024 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 102, Issue 30

The American Chemical Society Cleveland Local Section seeks nominations for the 2025 Edward M. Morley Medal. The annual award recognizes significant contributions to chemistry through achievements in research, teaching, engineering, research administration, or public service, or through outstanding service to humanity or industrial progress.

Eligible nominees should be members of ACS, the Canadian Society for Chemistry, or the Chemical Institute of Canada who live in either the US or Canada within about 250 mi (about 400 km) of Cleveland. The contributions for which the candidate is nominated should have been made during the nominee’s residence in the area. If a major contribution was made elsewhere, the nominee should have continued to make contributions while a resident of the area.

The awardee will receive $3,000 and will be presented the medal at a banquet during the local section’s meeting in May 2025, at which time the awardee will deliver the Edward W. Morley Lecture. Travel expenses for the medalist and spouse will be provided.

The deadline for nominations is Dec. 13. The nomination and supporting material should be submitted to Mark J. Waner at mwaner@jcu.edu. Nominations should consist of a letter highlighting the nominee’s significant contributions and a curriculum vitae that lists the candidate’s education, professional experience and activities, awards and honors, and offices held, as well as specifics on their significant contributions. Further information can be found at cenm.ag/morley2025.
