Evan Granite, senior technical advisor at the US Department of Energy (DOE), was named the recipient of the 2024 ACS Pittsburgh Award.

The Pittsburgh Award recognizes outstanding leadership in chemical affairs in the local and larger professional community.

Granite initiated and led the DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory Research and Innovation Center programs on rare earth and critical metals detection and recovery and emissions control. His leadership in these areas has been instrumental in addressing some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. He is the principal or coinvestigator on numerous projects, has authored or coauthored 69 peer-reviewed journal articles, holds 9 patents, and has delivered over 300 conference papers and presentations. His research has been cited extensively, reflecting its profound influence on the scientific community.

Granite is also committed to fostering scientific collaboration and education. He has served on PhD thesis committees, organized major conferences, and delivered lectures at numerous academic and professional events. His dedication to mentorship and community service—such as his volunteer work with the Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra—shows his broader commitment to societal betterment.

The award, which consists of a plaque, will be presented at a Pittsburgh Local Section dinner that is open to the public.
