Lisa McElwee-White, Crow Professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida, is the recipient of the 2024 Southern Chemist Award for her work involving application of organometallic chemistry to problems in materials deposition. The award, presented by the Memphis Local Section of the American Chemical Society, honors outstanding researchers who have brought recognition to the southern US through their activities and accomplishments. McElwee-White’s research program focuses on the use of mechanism-based design of precursors for chemical vapor deposition of various metal nitride, sulfide, oxide, and other films for use in semiconductor devices. Additionally, the program has developed techniques for low-temperature photoassisted chemical vapor deposition on thermally sensitive substrates and developed precursors for use in electron and ion beam–induced deposition of nanostructures. McElwee-White will receive the award in December at a dinner in Memphis honoring her research and service.
