The American Chemical Society Board of Directors met in Washington, DC, on Dec. 6 and 7 and elected Wayne E. Jones Jr. chair of the board of directors for 2025. The board also selected Katherine L. Lee and Lisa Houston to serve terms on the executive committee.
Other actions by the board included approving the 2025–29 ACS Strategic Plan, a $43.6 million operating budget and a $44.7 million capital budget for 2025, and CAS and Publications 2025–27 financial targets.
Also approved were the ACS Biennial Public Policy Priorities, the appointment of an editor-in-chief of ACS Nano, $10,000 to establish an annual Marie Maynard Daly Award in the ACS New York Local Section, and $10,000 in support of speakers for the presidential symposium “Advances in Instrumentation and Methodology for Liquid-Phase Separations” at the scientific conference Pacifichem 2025. Amendments to Board Regulations I, section 3 and VII, section 5; miscellaneous policies and procedures; the Committee on Pensions and Investments Charter; the ACS defined contribution plan and Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 403(b) plan were approved as proposed.
The board endorsed the following actions as approved by the ACS Council on Aug. 21, 2024, during ACS Fall 2024: Petition for Global Representation on Council; the creation of international chemical sciences chapters for Bangladesh, East and Northeast India, and West India; Academic Professional Guidelines; the Chemical Professional’s Code of Conduct; and the continuance of the Committees on Chemical Safety, Chemistry and Public Affairs, Community Activities, Minority Affairs, Professional Training, Science, Senior Chemists, Women Chemists, and Younger Chemists.
In addition, the board adopted a resolution in memory of past ACS president and board member Attila E. Pavlath.
