The 2025 Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM 2025), hosted by the American Chemical Society North Jersey Local Section (NJACS), takes place May 28–31 at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. The conference also celebrates the 100th anniversary of the North Jersey Local Section. The meeting offers programming for all professional levels. More information about the meeting is available on the meeting website at www.marm2025.com.

Technical program. The opening night will include a plenary lecture by Nobel laureate Morten Meldal. Meldal is recognized for his work in the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry. Professional Women of Color Network cofounder, Phaedria Marie St. Hilaire, will give a keynote address on Thursday, and Rebecca Ruck, executive director of enabling technologies/process chemistry at Merck & Co., will give a keynote address on Friday. Saturday’s programming will highlight K–12 education in chemistry, with invited speaker Roy G. Biv (Walker Smith). Technical programming includes sessions on green chemistry, sustainable chemistry, and environmental chemistry; material science and its optical and biomedical applications; and synthetic, analytical, and biochemical approaches in pharmaceutical development.

Workshops. David Laviska, ACS portfolio manager for green chemistry and sustainability in education, will chair a workshop for all chemists on green chemistry. Important safety skills will be discussed in two workshops on Thursday and Friday. A workshop on mentors and professional development will be held on Thursday afternoon. Two ACS career workshops, “Finding Your Pathway” and “Acing the Interview,” will also take place. An “Industry-Academia Summit” hosted by the ACS Office of Higher Education is scheduled for Saturday.

Undergraduate and graduate student programming. The presentation “Careers as a Cosmetic Chemist” is scheduled for Wednesday. A session for those interested in learning about types of jobs in the pharmaceutical industry will also take place. Representatives from various graduate school representatives will be available at the exposition. The Younger Chemists Committee has planned an ice cream social for the meeting. The student programming also includes an undergraduate poster session with awards for best posters.

Exposition. The Chem Expo is scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Morning coffee and a grab-and-go breakfast will be available in the exposition hall on both days. Visiting the expo is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest products on the market. The expo will also offer academic recruiting tables and information about local sections in the mid-Atlantic region.

Awards. Awards to be presented at the meeting include: the Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences, the ACS Division of Chemical Education Regional Award for Excellence in High School Teaching, the E. Emmet Reid Award in Chemistry Teaching at Small Colleges in the ACS Middle Atlantic Region, the E. Ann Nalley Middle Atlantic Regional Award for Volunteer Service to the American Chemical Society, and the William “Bill” Suits Undergraduate Middle Atlantic Region Award for Outstanding Student Volunteer Service to the American Chemical Society. The awards dinner is on Thursday evening.

Social events. Social highlights include the 100th-anniversary reception of NJACS on Wednesday. On Thursday, 50-to-70-year members of the ACS will be honored at a wine and cheese reception. A reception on Friday will celebrate local section volunteers. A Women Chemist Committee luncheon is scheduled for Friday.

Lodging and registration. Regular and on-site registration is open until the end of the meeting. A limited number of reduced-rate rooms are available at the Cambria West Orange, the Wilshire Grand Hotel, and the Courtyard by Marriott in North Orange. The Hampton Inn and the Double Tree by Hilton in Newark have courtesy blocks available. Reduced room rates end 10 to 14 days before the meeting.
