SQM acquires DSM iodine unit

The world's largest iodine producer, Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile, has purchased DSM's iodine business for $72 million in cash. The unit, part of DSM's fine chemicals business, consists of assets, mostly in Chile, including mining and water rights as well as annual capacity for 2,200 metric tons of iodine. The unit also makes iodine derivatives.
