Contructive Bio, a genome engineering start-up founded by University of Cambridge molecular biologist Jason Chin, has secured $58 million in series A financing, bringing its total raised capital to $75 million. Nobel laureate Gregory Winter is joining the company as a board member. Constructive Bio aims to deliver biomanufacturing at industrial scale by synthesizing the genomes of bacteria to produce novel proteins and biopolymers that incorporate noncanonical amino acids. Chin says in a press release that the funding will help the firm achieve its goal of “accelerating genome synthesis and design from years to days.”
