Sustainea, a joint venture between the Brazilian chemical maker Braskem and the Japanese trading firm Sojitz, plans to build a biobased ethylene glycol plant in Lafayette, Indiana. The plant will be located near a Primient facility that will sell corn dextrose feedstock to the facility. Ethylene glycol is a raw material for polyethylene terephthalate polymer. The plant will cost $400 million and is scheduled to commence operations in 2028. Sustainea ultimately plans to build three biobased ethylene glycol plants.
