FluoRok raises $9.8 million for hydrogen fluoride alternative

The British start-up FluoRok has raised $9.8 million in funding to help commercialize its technology for making fluorochemicals without using hydrogen fluoride. Instead, FluoRok has developed a process that combines an inorganic salt activator with calcium fluoride to produce what it says is a safer fluorinating reagent. The firm, a 2022 spin-out from the University of Oxford, says its initial projects will be to scale up production of the reagent and battery electrolyte lithium hexafluorophosphate.
