May 25, 2019 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 97, Issue 21

Amgen plans to pay about $167 million to acquire Nuevolution, a Danish firm that invented a DNA-encoded library method for small-molecule drug discovery. Amgen research chief Raymond Deshaies says the deal will “significantly expand Amgen’s ability to discover novel small molecules against difficult-to-drug targets.”
