by Marc S. Reisch
June 22, 2019 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 97, Issue 25

W. R. Grace has acquired Rive Technology, a start-up firm from which it licensed zeolite catalyst technology for fuel refining. Financial details were not disclosed. Launched in 2006 and based on work by chemist Javier Garcia-Martinez at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rive developed a method for introducing large-pore spaces into synthetic zeolites to improve fuel yields at oil refineries. Grace says it will continue Rive’s development of zeolites for a range of chemical catalysts and processes.
