by Michael McCoy
February 20, 2022 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 100, Issue 7

The food ingredients company Kerry Group has agreed to acquire c-LEcta, a German enzyme developer, and has disclosed the purchase of Enmex, a Mexican enzyme manufacturer. Kerry will spend $156 million for a 92% stake in c-LEcta; it spent $70 million in December to buy Enmex. Kerry says the deals will expand its ability to create enzymes and other fermentation-based products for food and drug markets. Kerry bought Niacet, a US maker of propionate and acetate food preservatives, last year for about $1 billion.
