ExxonMobil is considering building an ethylene cracker and polyethylene complex in Calhoun County, Texas, between Houston and Corpus Christi. According to an application for tax breaks that the company filed with the county’s independent school district, the plant would cost $8.6 billion, and construction would begin in 2026. “The project is in competition with several other locations and opportunities across the globe,” the application notes. ExxonMobil and Sabic completed a large ethylene complex in Corpus Christi in 2021.
