Checkerspot and DIC partner on personal care ingredients from algae

The California-based start-up Checkerspot and the Japanese chemical maker DIC plan to jointly develop skin and personal care ingredients derived from microalgae. Checkerspot ferments algae to produce triglycerides that can be converted into useful chemicals. A previous collaboration between the two companies yielded a polyol currently being used in cross-country skis.
