United Phosphorus buys seed maker

India's United Phosphorus has acquired Advanta, a Dutch producer of seeds and developer of seed technologies. United Phosphorus, a company that claims to be India's largest producer of crop protection products, says the acquisition will "jump-start its entry into the high end of the seed business." Advanta was launched in 1996 as a joint venture of Zeneca and Royal Vanderhave Group.
