Immigrants Up In U.S. Science And Engineering

The number of immigrant scientists and engineers working in the U.S. has continued to grow in the past decade. In 2013, 18% of scientists and engineers in the U.S. were immigrants, up from 16% in 2003. The vast majority—63%—were naturalized U.S. citizens in 2013, followed by 22% permanent residents and 15% temporary visa holders. This map shows the regions where they were born.
