Several South Korean companies are working together to commercialize a new process for manufacturing lithium iron phosphate (LFP), used to make battery cathodes. Carmakers Hyundai Motor and Kia will work with the battery firm EcoPro BM to develop a way to make LFP directly from primary raw materials, skipping an intermediate step involving precursors. Several start-ups, including Nano One, Novonix, and Sylvatex, are also developing precursor-free manufacturing processes for LFP and other cathode materials.
