Carbios delays depolymerization unit

by Alexander H. Tullo
January 9, 2025 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 103, Issue 1

The French firm Carbios is delaying its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling plant in Longlaville, France, by 6–9 months as it awaits financing. The company is developing an enzymatic technology for breaking down PET into its raw materials, terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Carbios had been planning to commence production at the plant in 2026. The delay will allow it to conserve cash as it negotiates with creditors and lines up customers. The firm has also appointed Philippe Pouletty transitional CEO to replace Emmanuel Ladent, whose term expired in December.
