Prism raises $40 million to convert old tires into chemicals

Prism Worldwide has raised $40 million to advance technology that converts used tires into thermoplastic elastomers. Most old tires are incinerated or landfilled, but several companies are developing methods to chemically recycle them. Prism’s technology reverses cross-linking bridges that form during sulfur vulcanization of rubber. The company says the products it makes from old tires can be recycled repeatedly.
