Merck KGaA and Intel are jointly funding academic research into the use of artificial intelligence to improve the sustainability of semiconductor manufacturing. The projects, all located in Europe, include novel materials, improved etching methods, application of atomic-scale data, and fluorochemical waste reduction. “We aim to explore previously unknown paths and potentials from which the entire semiconductor industry can benefit,” Anja Jatsch, head of the materials innovation pipeline for electronics at Merck KGaA, says in a press release.
