The US Department of Commerce has signed a nonbinding agreement to give Sumitomo Chemical $52.1 million toward the construction of a semiconductor-grade isopropyl alcohol plant in Baytown, Texas. Chipmakers use isopropyl alcohol as a cleaning solvent. The deal was announced with three others for a total of $246 million for the semiconductor supply chain under the CHIPS and Science Act, signed into law by former president Joe Biden.
