The halogens present in finished products and production waste can make their way into the environment as carcinogenic compounds. Fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and sulfur can cause corrosion in industrial processes, and lead to environmental pollution. This has driven efforts to reduce halogen content throughout the manufacturing of various polymers, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and consumable goods. Organically bound halide and sulfur determination involves tedious offline sample preparations, which are highly labor intensive.
