Merck KGaA appoints Belén Garijo its CEO

Merck KGaA has named Belén Garijo its CEO starting May 1, 2021. Garijo will become one of a handful of women leading major drug companies, including Emma Walmsley of GlaxoSmithKline, Deborah Dunsire at Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals, and Reshma Kewalramani of Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Currently deputy CEO, Garijo will succeed Stefan Oschmann. Garijo is a trained physician.
