Clyde W. Frank, 83, of Alexandria, Virginia, died June 26, 2024.
“Clyde’s career focused on environmental issues. As a chemistry professor at the University of Iowa, he taught Chemistry and Physics of the Environment with his brother, Louis Frank. He coauthored a textbook, Analytical Chemistry, that went through two editions. In the early 1990s, at the US Department of Energy, he led R&D efforts to clean up legacy sites where nuclear weapons had been manufactured. He was a tireless advocate for women in science and fostered collaboration among diverse partners. Clyde was the inaugural recipient of the Dixy Lee Ray Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1999.”—Mitchell Erickson, former doctoral student
