John Straughn, 76, of Madison, Wisconsin, died Sept. 7, 2024.
"John worked for the University of Wisconsin Safety Department as a chemist until his retirement in 2015. He also enjoyed a part-time job with the Madison Symphony Orchestra as property manager. He was a voracious reader, and after his retirement, he looked forward to spending his days catching up on scientific magazines. A good day for him was a day spent pondering the physics of the universe, practical mathematics, geology, and other earth sciences.
John was a gentle soul who liked sharing interesting scientific facts with his friends. He will be missed for his delightful and quirky personality."—Mary Ellen Straughn, sister
