Donald M. Burland, 81, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died March 10, 2025.
“Don is remembered for his wide-ranging interests beyond science, his humor, and his love for his family. After his postdoctoral years at Leiden University in the Netherlands, he took a position at IBM’s San Jose, California, research laboratory until his retirement in 1997. Don’s last years were spent in Charlottesville, Virginia, following his tenure at the National Science Foundation from 1997 to 2005.”—Jan Burland, wife
