John F. Stanton, 63, of Gainesville, Florida, died March 21, 2025.
“John was suddenly taken from us on the first day of spring. He made seminal contributions to the theory and practice of quantum chemistry, particularly coupled cluster theory. Throughout his career, he was always deeply committed to validating theory through experiment—especially spectroscopy, but also thermochemistry and kinetics—and conversely, elucidating spectroscopic phenomena through theory. Always driven by the pleasure of discovery and never by the trappings of status or fame, he was an outstanding teacher and research mentor, an exemplary writer, and a most warm and generous friend to many in the community and beyond. May his memory be blessed.”—Jan M. L. Martin, friend and collaborator
