He collaborated with fellow chemists in both the US and Germany, often as the lead author on publications, pulling the work of several together to reveal the big picture. He promoted international education between students. With his wife, he developed a study abroad course that enjoyed considerable success for over 10 years, combining the history of chemistry with pertinent applications. He was a family man, traveling with his grandchildren, sharing our wonderful world with them.”—Janis White, wife
