Roger Soderberg, 88, of Hanover, New Hampshire, died Aug. 25, 2024.
“Born in Berwyn, Illinois, Roger received his undergraduate education at Grinnell College and his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a National Science Foundation predoctoral fellow working with Albert Cotton on new complexes of cobalt and nickel. After completing his doctoral work, he joined the faculty at Dartmouth College, where he and his students studied nickel and palladium complexes. In 1972, he reported the first chelate complexes of the iodonium cation. Subsequent work involved the study of wood smoke pollution in New Hampshire and Vermont, focusing on the generation of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.”—Gordon Gribble, colleague
