“During his career, Russ was awarded 23 patents for agrochemicals. In 1970, he became one of the founding members of CHEMTREC, the hazardous materials transportation safety organization. He also served on several civilian oversight boards, for nuclear power plant construction and operation, civil defense, and other environmental matters. When a train derailment contaminated a local pond, he quietly made arrangements with the responsible company and personally treated the pond over a period of several years until it was safe for people to use.”—Bill Bimber, son
