True Wasabia japonica (not the coloured horseradish) is being used more and more in the medical field and foods. The Food Safety organizations are coming down hard on horseradish/mustard mixes as the allergen - mustard, is not normally declared.
The Crucifereae family has a wide variety of plants, most of which produce sulfur compounds. Each has it's own bland and composition yielding a wide variety of tastes. Similarly, the Solanaceae family has a wide variety of plants (tobacco, tomato, nightshade) with a wide variety of toxicity and even foodstuffs.
