Mitra Chem to work with Saint-Gobain on battery cathodes

The start-up Mitra Chem is partnering with the ceramic materials firm Saint-Gobain to demonstrate a manufacturing process for lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) that doesn’t generate sulfate waste. LMFP is a battery cathode material that stores more energy than lithium iron phosphate, without using expensive metals like nickel. Mitra will develop the cathode material; Saint-Gobain will contribute manufacturing infrastructure. The firms are aiming for large-scale production of LMFP by 2026.
