The article about Linde's acquiring BOC suggests that customers and shareholders will benefit (C&EN, March 13, page 10). While I agree that shareholders of BOC will benefit, I wonder how less competition benefits customers? Also, why doesn't C&EN report on how this merger will "benefit" chemists and chemical engineers whose jobs may be affected?
