Celanese has deployed a new catalyst, discovered by Symyx under a research collaboration, for the production of vinyl acetate. Symyx, which uses high-throughput research technologies to identify catalyst families, says it will earn milestone payments from use of the catalyst in an initial vinyl acetate plant. It will receive royalties if the technology is expanded to other plants.
