Plastics makers eye shutdowns

Basell will close a 260,000-metric-ton-per-year polypropylene plant in Pernis, the Netherlands, by the middle of 2007. The company says the Pernis plant uses the LIPP process, while it is focusing on its Spheripol and Spherizone polypropylene processes. Meanwhile, Borealis is considering closing a 110,000-metric-ton high-density-polyethylene plant in Bamble, Norway, later this year.
