IBM and ETH Zurich have opened the Binnig & Rohrer Nanotechnology Center at IBM’s research campus in Zurich. Built at a cost of $90 million, the center is a public-private partnership aimed at science on the atomic level. For example, IBM scientists will explore semiconducting nanowires that could increase the energy efficiency of computing devices by 10 times.
