by Michael McCoy
July 29, 2024 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 102, Issue 23

DSM-Firmenich plans to sell its omega-3 fish oil business, which has annual sales of about $185 million, to KD Pharma Group for an undisclosed sum. As part of the deal, DSM-Firmenich will get a 29% stake in KD Pharma’s parent company. KD Pharma says it is already the world leader in omega-3 oils for pharmaceuticals and that the purchase will help it grow in the nutrition and personal care markets. DSM-Firmenich, formed through the 2023 merger of DSM and Firmenich International, announced last month that it will sell a yeast extract business. It is also considering the sale of its animal nutrition business, which has $3.4 billion in sales.
