Biopolymer developer Metabolix has received permits to build a 110 million-lb-per-year plant that will produce Natural Plastic, its name for a polyhydroalkanoate polymer that is produced via fermentation. The plant will be built at the Clinton, Iowa, corn refinery operated by Metabolix' joint-venture partner, Archer Daniels Midland. Metabolix says production will begin in 2008.
