Caliper purchases imaging firm

Caliper Life Sciences, a supplier of screening and microfluidics systems for drug discovery research, is continuing its acquisition run. Caliper plans to acquire Xenogen, a manufacturer of advanced imaging systems for drug discovery, in a stock deal valued at approximately $80 million. Caliper acquired liquid-handling systems firm Zymark in 2003 for $71 million and screening and assay development firm NovaScreen BioSciences last year for $22 million.
