Chemical Prices Jump In May

June 18, 2007 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 85, Issue 25

Prices for U.S. chemicals took a leap in May, according to Labor Department data. The numbers show the producer price index for all chemicals rose 1.3% from April and 3.7% from May last year to 213.3 (1982 = 100). The increase was helped by a strong price rise for industrial chemicals. The May index for this sector came in at 223.7, up 3.1% from April and 5.2% from May 2006.
