by Alexander H. Tullo
June 22, 2009 | A version of this story appeared in Volume 87, Issue 25

BASF is closing an expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant in Tarragona, Spain, by August. Some 85 workers will be affected by the decision. BASF says the small plant has become uncompetitive and that it will supply the Iberian EPS market out of its facility in Ludwigshafen, Germany. EPS is used to make coffee cups and protective packaging.
