The American Chemical Society participated in the San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering, which is the largest annual celebration of science in the U.S. It was held at Petco Park. Dozens of volunteers from ACS student chapters and local sections engaged tiny tots and grandmas alike in hands-on activities demonstrating basic chemical principles such as bonding. Lynn M. Hogue, chair of the ACS Committee on Community Activities, put on a fascinating chemistry magic show, and ACS President Bassam Z. Shakhashiri talked to visitors about the importance of sharing science with the community.
