Seven windmills, with three blades each, rise high above the sea against a clear blue sky. A thin tan line, the top of a narrow dam, is barely visible running between them.

Bayer plans to set up a development center in Otterup, Denmark, that will focus its expertise in polyurethanes, polycarbonates, coatings, adhesives, and specialty materials on wind energy development. The firm says it chose the Denmark location because the country already gets 20% of its electrical power from wind turbines and is committed to increasing that figure to 50% by 2020.
