Starch producer Roquette has started a facility in Lestrem, France, to produce food ingredients based on the microalgae chlorella. As an ingredient, microalgae can be used to reduce fat, optimize lipid profile, and provide plant-based protein, Roquette says. The unit can make up to 5,000 metric tons per year.
