Amyris, the industrial biotechnology firm known for farnesene, its biobased chemical and fuels precursor, has launched Biossance, a consumer beauty brand. The first product is Biossance The Revitalizer, a moisturizer that contains squalane. Squalane is customarily derived from olive oil or shark liver oil. Amyris makes it starting from sugar-derived farnesene.
